Personal Highlights of the Week

Hi All!.............

I was overwhelmed and am extremely grateful to everyone for your responses and support to the questionnaire I posted last week regarding the top two questions to consider when starting up a business. Many of the responses will be included in my forthcoming 'business start-up' book and training progamme soon to be launched.

To thank you for your support I will be providing free training in a series of videos later this week so watch out for my email

As always please share this blog and of course, I I would love to hear your comments

In the meantime here are some of the things I personally enjoyed doing last week.

  1. Book I am reading…..

AI Super-Powers: - China, Silicon Valley and the New World Order

by Kai Fu Lee - September 2018

You will be aware of the rapid change going on in the world at the moment and I believe the world is going to change more over the next 7 years compared to last 150 years, mainly driven by Technology, The Internet and Social Media. One of the biggest developments in technology already impacting this change is AI - Artificial Intelligence

Kai-Fu Lee is one of the world’s most respected experts on AI and his book reveals that China is suddenly catching with the US at an astonishingly rapid and unexpected pace.

In AI Superpowers, Kai-fu Lee argues powerfully that because of these unprecedented developments in AI, dramatic changes will be happening much sooner than many of us expected. Indeed, as the US-Sino AI competition begins to heat up, Lee urges the US and China to both accept and to embrace the great responsibilities that come with significant technological power. Most experts already say that AI will have a devastating impact on blue-collar jobs. But Lee predicts that Chinese and American AI will have a strong impact on white-collar jobs as well. He provides  a clear description of which jobs will be affected and how soon, which jobs can be enhanced with AI, and most importantly, how we can provide solutions to some of the most profound changes in human history that are coming soon.

  1. Podcast I am Following…

She conducts original research experiments on popular psychology and communication. Van Edwards writes monthly columns for Entrepreneur Magazine and The Huffington Post and teaches popular online courses about body language, facial expression, nonverbal communication and lie detection, all grounded in scientific research. She gave her first TEDx Talk in London in 2017.

Her lab has also conducted research on the TV Show Shark Tank and analyzed hand gestures in presidential inaugural addresses.
Van Edwards latest book which is an excellent read is called Captivate, The Science of Succeeding with People. She is also the author of the books Human Lie Detection and Body Language 101 and Do I Get My Allowance Before or After I'm Grounded with Plume under her maiden name, Vanessa Van Petten.

  1. Music I am Listening to……

Júníus Meyvant

Júníus Meyvant is the artist name of singer-songwriter Unnar Gísli Sigurmundsson from Iceland. As a young boy he was an eccentric to a small degree and he only loved two things, skateboarding and painting. Every now and then he asked the Muses if he should learn to play an instrument but his wild and free behavior terminated his dreams as he was quickly suspended out of music school. All through his teens he rambled on without even considering becoming a musician or even playing any instrument.

In his early twenties, Unnar stumbled upon a beat up guitar at his parents’ house and started noodling around. By playing the guitar he managed to tame his inner beast and his sense for songs and melodies burst like rockets. The uncontrollable urge for writing music and constant flow of ideas kept him tossing and turning every night and day forever and a day. For a while he filtered his ideas through a band that didn’t live up to his creative requirements so he decided to undertake his alter ego Júníus Meyvant.

The sound of Júníus Meyvant is a rich and afflicted take on freaky folk pop with a familiar and soulful feel. The feeling you get from listening to Júníus equally as comfortable as resting under a thick wool blanket with a hot cup of cocoa in or even when one settles with an exotic beverage on a sandy beach in Australia

Floating Harmonies was his most recent release in 2016 with new material due for release early next year

  1. Photograph that inspired me……………

This is a photograph I took at the weekend after I found my mum's old recipe and had a go myself at making some Irish brown bread!........

  1. Wine that surprised me

Lazy Lab Cabernet Sauvignon Horse Heaven Hills Washington 2016

Here’s a big, bold Cabernet that will complement a wide variety of flavorful foods.

The reputation and quality of Washington State wines have really soared in the last ten or so years…and for good reason. The wine growing regions in the south and southeast of the state are very dry, so the grapes have to “struggle” to ripen.

Having done some research it seems that major producers are crafting excellent wines from Horse Heaven Hills, as well as several other appellations in that part of the state. There’s Rattlesnake Hills, the Wahluke Slope, and Walla Walla – the place so nice they named it twice.

This offering is very “true to type,” which means it offers all the flavors and aromas expected from a great Cabernet. The color is almost black in the glass, so anticipate a dense, full mouthfeel and concentrated flavors. You’ll enjoy the dense, concentrated flavors of black fruit (especially plum) along with jammy blackberry. I tried the wine with grilled steak and Gorgonzola walnut butter. Walnuts contain tannins which complement the structure of the wine. And the saltiness of the cheese softens and rounds out the overall structure.
