                                         Stories from the Red Couch

Please like and share and of course, I I would love to hear your comments

In the meantime here are some of the things I personally enjoyed doing last week.

  1. Book I am reading…..

The Third Door:

by Alex Banayan - June 2018

The larger-than-life journey of an 18-year-old college freshman who set out from his dorm room to track down Bill Gates, Lady Gaga, and dozens more of the world's most successful people to uncover how they broke through and launched their careers. The Third Door takes you on an unprecedented adventure--from hacking Warren Buffett's shareholders meeting to chasing Larry King through a grocery store to celebrating in a nightclub with Lady Gaga--as Alex Banayan travels from icon to icon, decoding their success. After remarkable one-on-one interviews with Bill Gates, Maya Angelou, Steve Wozniak, Jane Goodall, Larry King, Jessica Alba, Pitbull, Tim Ferriss, Quincy Jones, and many more, Alex discovered the one key they have in common: they all took the Third Door. Life, business, success. . . it's just like a nightclub. There are always three ways in. There's the First Door: the main entrance, where 99 percent of people wait in line, hoping to get in. The Second Door: the VIP entrance, where the billionaires and celebrities slip through. But what no one tells you is that there is always, always. . . the Third Door. It's the entrance where you have to jump out of line, run down the alley, bang on the door a hundred times, crack open the window, sneak through the kitchen--there's always a way. Whether it's how Bill Gates sold his first piece of software or how Steven Spielberg became the youngest studio director in Hollywood history, they all took the Third Door.

  1. Podcast I am Following…

Lilly Singh

You’ve never seen her on mainstream TV shows, movies, chart-topping singles, or billboard albums. But you probably have seen her videos on YouTube (or a clip on Facebook). Lilly Singh started making YouTube videos after battling severe depression in college. She started to re-connect with her childhood creativity and she started to get good at it. Good led to great, which led to millions of YouTube fans, huge entertainment opportunities, and one of the most recognized faces in the online entertainment community.

And she’s just getting started.

  1. Music I am Listening to……

Chiara Civello

Italian singer/songwriter Chiara Civello is an eclectic, far-reaching artist who brings a variety of pop, jazz, cabaret and Latin influences to the table. To me her music seems to be influenced by Sade, Basia, Norah Jones, Nellie McKay, Rickie Lee Jones. The jazz influence is almost always present and I get the impression she has listened to everyone from Joni Mitchell, Sade and Sting to Ella Fitzgerald, Julie London and Billie Holiday. Brazilian jazz and pop is also a strong influence on Civello, who is obviously well aware of Brazilian greats such as Astrud Gilberto, Gal Costa, Ivan Lins and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Although Civello grew up in a country where Italian is the primary language, much of her writing has been in English. Civello, in fact, has been singing and writing in at least four languages (English, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish) and when she performs in English, Civello sings with only a slight trace of an Italian accent. Her command of the English language is excellent, and her accent is wonderful in that it gives her performances a great deal of character. Her latest material was released last year on her album called 'Eclipse'

  1. Photograph that inspired me……………

This is a photograph I took at my parent's house in Ireland a couple of years ago........

  1. Wine that surprised me

Rose Ridge Shiraz Riverina, 2017

In southeast Australia just north and west of Melbourne, the Riverina district may be the country's best kept secret. The climate is unlike more traditional wine growing regions such as Barossa and McLaren Vale, and the wines display absolutely classic flavour and aroma profiles.

Shiraz is Australia's go-to-grape, and this sample, medium-translucent in the glass, rewards you with classic red and black fruit, leather, the scent of apple peel, and characteristic Shiraz black pepper notes. Blended with a bit of Cabernet Sauvignon to smooth the tannis and provide excellent length on the finish.

A big wine needs big food, so I paired the wine with a dense beef stew and it stood up perfectly

Quote that I treasure —

There comes a special moment in everyone's life, a moment for which that person was born. That special opportunity, when he seizes it, will fulfill his mission - a mission for which he is uniquely qualified. In that moment, he will find greatness. It is his finest hour.

-  Winston Churchill

And, as always, I would be grateful for your feedback on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube
