    'Living the Life you Imagine'

Personal Highlights of the Week

Hi All!.............

Kung Hei Fat Choi – Happy Chinese New Year 5th February

Returning from my 2 week RTW trip that included catching up with family in Ireland, business in London and spending three days with my business coach in Miami…I think to myself how grateful I am to be doing what I love to do – This is the greatest time ever to be alive. It is just over 7 years since I left the high flying life of the global corporate world. Today is a special day because I have the opportunity to use my 25 years of corporate international experience to make a difference in the world, as I begin My Young Entrepreneurs Academy in schools in Australia. Teaching kids from as young as 10 years old how to develop an entrepreneurial mind set. The use of your imagination to problem solve and transform an idea into a business is unfortunately sadly lacking in the education system today worldwide. More about My Young Entrepreneurs Academy in future blogs.

Thank you for your support since I started this weekly blog last year………………

As always please share my blog and social media posts with all your friends as that is how we build a community. Also I would love to hear your feedback, comments and suggestions of content for future weeks

In the meantime here are some of the things I personally enjoyed doing last week.

  1. Book I am reading…..

Shoe Dog - A Memoir by the Creator of Nike:

by Phil Knight – April 2016

Nike founder and board chairman Phil Knight offers a rare and revealing look at the notoriously media-shy man behind the company he founded – Nike. The book illuminates his company’s early days as an intrepid start-up and its evolution into one of the world’s most iconic, game-changing, and profitable brands.

Bill Gates named Shoe Dog one of his five favourite books of 2016 and called it “an amazing tale, a refreshingly honest reminder of what the path to business success really looks like. It’s a messy, perilous, and chaotic journey, riddled with mistakes, endless struggles, and sacrifice. Phil Knight opens up in ways few CEOs are willing to do.”

Fresh out of business school, Phil Knight borrowed fifty dollars from his father and launched a company with one simple mission: import high-quality, low-cost running shoes from Japan. Selling the shoes from the trunk of his car in 1963, Knight grossed eight thousand dollars that first year. Today, Nike’s annual sales top $30 billion. In this age of start-ups, Knight’s Nike is the gold standard, and its one of the few icons instantly recognized in every corner of the world.

But Knight, the man behind Nike, has always been a mystery. In Shoe Dog, he tells his story at last. At twenty-four, Knight decides that rather than work for a big corporation, he will create something all his own, new, dynamic, different. He details the many risks he encountered, the crushing setbacks, the ruthless competitors and hostile bankers—as well as his many thrilling triumphs. Above all, he recalls the relationships that formed the heart and soul of Nike, with his former track coach, the irascible and charismatic Bill Bowerman, and with his first employees, a ragtag group of misfits and savants who quickly became a band of swoosh-crazed brothers.

Together, harnessing the electrifying power of a bold vision and a shared belief in the transformative power of sports, they created a brand—and a culture—that changed everything.

  1. Music I am Listening to……

Sharon Van Etten – Remind Me Tomorrow

Although she was born and raised in suburban New Jersey, Sharon Van Etten's folk music evokes the open landscapes of a more expansive America. A dedicated choir student during her childhood, she studied clarinet, violin, and piano before moving on to guitar. She began writing songs in high school and sang in a choir group, the Madrigals. She credits her choral experiences as indispensable in learning to musically notate, as well as to sing harmonies

Her 5th album released last month is called ‘Remind Me Tomorrow’

For a decade, Van Etten specialized in understatement. From her 2009 debut Because I Was in Love through 2014's Are We There, she mined the tension generated by murmuring instrumentation clashing with her passionate delivery, a balance that proved quietly compelling.

Van Etten maintains that sense of drama on Remind Me Tomorrow, but she's radically shifted her presentation. Each song is constructed like a short story and is given a distinct feel, but they're held together by Van Etten's subdued fearlessness. Throughout the album 'Remind Me Tomorrow', she plumbs the depths of contentedness, setting her satisfaction to a sound that's nominally dark yet strangely comforting and nourishing. Even if this album doesn't speak to your specific life, it will nevertheless enrich it.

  1. Wine that surprised me

Vina Vandalos Red Blend Spain 2017

Vina Vandalos red blend wine is from one of the top vineyards in Spain’s classic wine growing regions. The wine combines the exceptional colours, aromas, and flavours of the country’s many heritage grapes! Dark Ruby in colour the wine is literally almost opaque which eludes to the fact of it being full of very bold mouth-filling flavours. Besides, you will experience aromas of red apple, vanilla, plum, tobacco and a dash of black pepper which continually follow through on your palate. Because of these facts the wine is well balanced, and the aftertaste is very smooth.

I had paired the with barbequed chicken and ribs in a rich and smokey barbeque sauce
