Question 13 of 13
Activity 11
The final activity is to write your Business Obituary
When starting anything new I always like to begin with the end in mind and I really mean the END!
The question here is how do you want your business to be remembered when it is not around anymore? What kind of legacy do you want your business to have? When everything is said and done, when the clouds part, when the dust settles, whatever metaphors you want to use, when all is finished, how do you want people to talk about you and the impact that you’ve had through your business?
I am challenging you to write your business obituary now! Ask yourself not only how do I want my business to be remembered, but also what would I want people to say about it?
You’ve got to reach for the stars when you are doing this activity. Hold nothing back in anyway whatsoever when writing this obituary.
This is like vision board stuff.
The Millennials are all about creating vision boards. In 2007/2008 I built an a multi award winning house just outside London in England and my daughter Kimberley was 14 at that time and she said to me one day “Dad, I’m working on vision boards”. She started showing me all these pictures of different living rooms and another full set of different kitchen designs. She was of course envisioning how the kitchen would look, how her bedroom would look, how the garden would look etc. She was dreaming up the perfect home for us. This is what you need to do when it comes to your business obituary
To help you here are some things you may wish to consider;
· How many lives did you change?
· How did you change them?
· How did your products and your services make your customers feel (the experience) when they used them?
· How much money did your business make every year that your business was in business?
This is a very important activity because I always say your brand is what people say about you when you are not at the dinner party, industry conference, coffee meeting or networking event
